Purina opens new Ohio pet food factory

Jun 7, 2026

On May 26 2026, Nestlé Purina PetCare announced its new pet food facility in Batavia. The company invested $550 million in the factory, which represents Purina’s first ground-up construction since 1975.

The facility has already started producing high-quality dry cat and dog food for Purina’s science-based brands, including Purina Pro Plan, Purina ONE and Dog Chow. It currently employs more than 340 people, with plans to increase to 500 employees once fully operational.

The facility’s location in Batavia taps into the area’s strong manufacturing tradition and is part of Cincinnati’s broad food manufacturing ecosystem of more than 300 food and flavoring companies.

“By investing in state-of-the-art manufacturing infrastructure and partnering with committed communities like Clermont County, we’re building a facility that will serve pet owners and their beloved companions for generations to come,” said Nina Leigh Krueger, chief executive officer and president of Purina. “Our new Batavia factory will play a vital role in strengthening our supply chain and ensuring families across the country have access to the trusted Purina products their pets thrive on.”

The factory is Purina’s 24th in the United States. In addition to supporting the local workforce, Purina is also dedicated to supporting Clermont County, having contributed more than $346,000 to various organizations, like emergency services, law enforcement and the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, through the Purina Foundation.

To celebrate the new facility, Purina will host an official grand opening this August, which will bring together the company’s leadership, local and state officials, community partners and associates.

“We are looking forward to officially opening the doors of our Batavia factory and celebrating this historic moment for our team,” said Mike Ferritto, factory manager of the facility. “As one of the largest investments Nestlé has made in a Purina manufacturing facility to date, this facility represents the future of pet food manufacturing. The factory combines world-class innovation with the talented workforce here in Clermont County.”
